Has Michele Bachmann Become Mitt Romney’s Main Rival?

Rasmussen Reports conducted the first poll of likely Republican primary voters  after the New Hampshire GOP debate laR week. The survey appeared to show a breakout for Minnesota Congresswoman Michele Bachmann, as she vaulted into second place in the GOP race with 19% support from Republican voters, trailing only Mitt Romney at 33%.

The survey, conducted among 1,000 likely GOP primary voters across the country, was taken one day after the debate at Saint Anselm College, one in which Bachmann was identified by many political analysts as having had a very good night.

The polling numbers for Bachmann suggested to some that she had become the principal alternative for the Tea Party wing of the GOP to former Governor Romney. The Rasmussen survey indicated that Romney and Bachmann were each the choice of 26% of those in the survey who self-identified as Tea Party members. Romney led Bachmann by just over a 2 to 1 margin, 36% to 16%, among all others in the survey. Bachmann was also judged to be the most conservative of those whose names were offered to respondents.

    She has my vote.

    • Apache6

      Mine too,Karen !!

      • Don39

As the currently only credable Conservative to offer an opposition to Romney she can count on my support. The liberal media is not going after her and being soft on Romney because they fear Romney more.

  • just wondering

Up to a few days ago Romney was on my list of possibilities. Once he teamed up with Mr. Global warminggore, I immediately dropped him. What another waste that had me fooled.

BEWARE of CARBON CREDITS: Look up the periodic table for Carbon. It has 6 electrons, 6 neutrons, and 6 protons. Since we are made of carbon it is the number of a man (Revelations 13:16-18) Or 666.

      • Apache6

        Kathleen,now that's FOOD FOR THOUGHT !!

Michelle may be Mitt's rival but the race is FAR from over. In many ways, it has barely begun. I am observing closely, but as Sarah has suggested, the "real" candidate i may not be apparent yet and she's still waiting. Well, so am I. Many of our candidates have a good message but it's not quite there yet..{I'm talking about the "complete" package} Our candidate needs to have that "certain something" that ignites ALL of us. { In the doomed John McCain race, it got ignighted when Sara Palin came on the scene.} Whether is HER or NOT, we need ignition………………

    • http://x Washington22

Just MORE RINO behavior on Romney's part……………..

  • ONTIME

Mitt is not going to be the nominee or a VP pick, Michelle will probably be a VP pick, my guess right now is Perry and Pawlenty are starting to get traction and Caine is looking like a great VP pick. Mitt is a smart man but is just to reticent and will not own up to his social care mistake.

    • http://x Washington22

I'd scratch Pawlenty, otherwise I tend to agree…………………

    • Evermyrtle

Every proposed candidate, so far, outruns Romney be a mile. I would cetainly hate to have to vote for him, since he is Obamas "little brother". There is so little differance in the two of them

If it weren't for the fact the Article 6 repudiated Biblical qualifications as the means of determining who should lead this country, neither Romney nor Bachman (nor any of the current bunch of incumbent scoundrels) would be candidates today. See "Article 6: The Supreme Law of the Land?"

    • http://x Washington22

I followed your link, Ted………..You are so right. Good lead…………………….

      • http://www.missiontoisrael.org Ted R. Weiland

Washington, thanks for letting me know.

  • Dodi

I hope so! I've lost a lot of my positive thoughts on Romney, not only because of RomneyCare, but also he won't commit to agreeing that he won't support the murdering of innocent babies and of course his thoughts on global warming, which today, where I come from we could use some global warming today! GO MICHELE ~ give us some relief from the usual Washington gang.

    • Fed Up !!

Romney is a rino would not veto the gay right bill , h/c in Massachusetts Gore endorsed him. What kind of person would vote for him other than a Liberal. Red flags are flying do not vote for this rino from Massachusetts home of Barny Frank gay Congress member. Mrs Bachmann gets my vote!!!

      • http://x Washington22

        Gay rights, golbal warming and illegal immigration………..Three strikes, he' out! Romney the RINO……………..{The garbage over Mass. health care, believe it or not, I can argue away. But not the other three.}

  • Howard

No, not yet. The ticket for 2012 is Governor Rick Perry for President and Congressman Allen West VP. God to their web site and learn more.

    • Michael

I'd vote for Perry/West in a heartbeat. It's too bad Perry hasn't announced his candidacy yet.

I urge all to do diligent research on Rick Perry before backing him for POTUS. Google will tell all, if you look for the right info. He shows much evidence of being a big government politician.

      1. He once backed the Trans Texas Corridor (part of the NAU – North American Union plan). He would use eminent domain to strip Texas ranchers and farmers of thousands of acres of their land, then give it to a company in Spain who would build, own, and operate the transportation corridor. There was so much heated opposition that he dropped that plan.

      2. Perry also planned to have the state of Texas force all teen-age girls to have a vaccination using a newly created serum. I forget what it was for. ( maybe STD or cervical cancer – not sure) Again heated opposition shut down that project.

      3. When he was Lt. Gov. under G. W. Bush he was once stopped by state police for speeding. In trying to avoid receiving a ticket, he said to the trooper, “Don’t you know who I am?” He received a ticket anyway.

Perry talks a good talk, has good presence, but is 100% political and power hungry. I do not want to be snookered by a RINO like Perry or Romney.

If he were a true conservative, he would never have supported the Trans-Texas Corridor or the forced vaccination of all Texas teen-age girls. The fact that he backed down on these things is more related to the political realities after the people raised the stop sign. The governorship of Texas is a constitutionally weak office – fortunately in this case.

Just wanted to point out that if Perry becomes President, he will need close monitoring. He loves power – maybe too much like our present POTUS.

      • http://x Washington22

He can exihibit ALL the power he wants, just as long as he cleans up OBAMA'S mess……………………….

    • http://x Washington22

Please be more specific. Site the exact web site……………………And I agree. Perry and West would attract millions of votes and be a strong ticket. West could contribute immencely to a Perry pick..

  • Michael

I would vote for Michele Bachmann but never will I vote for that RINO, Mitt Romney (who I will refer to as "Mitthead" in all subsequent posts). That can be interpreted as a combination of either Mitt and sh!thead or Mitt and meathead. I'll let you choose which.

    • Mike

John, I've followed your links but I can't seem to find what party you are running for or are you planning to run as an independent? Haven't heard anything about you here in Iowa leading up to the caucuses, other candidates have made their presence known here in Iowa and communicated to the voters their agenda. I provided you links to powerful conservative talkshow hosts here weeks ago. Time is running out here John, even a screwy homosexual activist has made his presence known running as a so-called Republican candidate.

It's amazing the short memory span of some people, years ago Romney ran against Ted Kennedy for the Senate seat and worked very hard to out liberal one of the most liberal senators in the last 50 years. My God people wake up! Leopards don't change their spots, Romney is a political chameleon that true conservatives shouldn't even be considering. Michele Bachmann understands the 28 principles of freedom, I'll vote for this gal in a heartbeat!

I will never vote for Romney under any circumstances, I've seen the Emperor has no clothes.

I agree Michael. Romney is not worth any votes. He has already proved he's like Obama in having his state put under a state health care system. Wonder how many in his state go to other states for health care when they cant' get it there? He would only revise some of Obama's health care bill and push it through anyway.

  • Greg

Michele Backmann is the only one running that really stands up for the constitution and foundational vaues this country was founded on. It is time for all real conservatives to get behind her as a candidate and stop this running around looking for some else. The more we run around looking disunited the happier we make the socialist democracts and it could also cause a R.I.N.O. to come out on top. Do we want that?

  • Devasahayam

No, that was always Gingrich. Romney isn't even wanted in Taxachussets where Michelle has possibility of becoming first female POTUS (she is like Kumaratunga or Merkel).

  • ron

mitt romney got to go ..sooner rather then later….he is a rino…he leans too much to left…he flip flops too much just to get votes… dont trust him…right now michele bachmann…still waiting to see who else….he is too much gop standard soft man….the rest of the field is rabbits…it is not goin to happen for them…tim p….is too weak…waiting for perry….there is going to be a surprise coming out….right now michele bachmann..she is the only one with guts on the list….

    • http://x Washington22

Someone needs to tell MITT he's a RINO…………………………We all seem to agree. The RNC betteer get informed, also. Mitt can quit wasting his time and money…………………

  • BobinPa.

I believe the only two in the GOP I would vote for are– Palin/Bachmann in 2012 or Bachmann/Palin in 2012. This Retired Marine has figured out the rest of them are mostly RINO'S or Moderates or BOTH. That last election with McCain sickened me. I thank Sen. McCain for his service, but not as President. I am a Registered Republican but this Philly area is LOUSY with Commu— "Lib-Tards". "Babes in the White House in 2012" I also believe the GOP needs a Thorough "House Cleaning". I am enjoying my "Cup of TEA". "Semper Fi".

    • http://x Washington22

Bobin, I agree that the ladies art THE most qualified for what we the voters want, but I don't think we'll EVER see them on the same ticket. Number one, consider the electorate. Number two, neither deserves to be "second" and would never agree……….It's either one OR the other. The "other"could still play a very vital role in the administration.

      • BobinPa.

Washington- I guess your right, but it's a shame. After you get past the two Ladies, the GOP is like that Country and Western singer, "Slim Pickens". Maybe we can strike a deal. One of them at the top of the ticket in 2012, the other at the top in 2016. "Wishful Thinking."

        • http://x Washington22

Bobbin, I gotta agree with your thought. I've been over every senario in my mind for months now, and I infuse REALITY into my thoughts. Yes, BOTH of the ladies are THE strongest constitutionalists and have the best message. I have come to the conclusion that if we can get one of them onto the ticket, we are FAR, FAR ahead of the game. And in all honesty, I think that they'd have to be "chosen" by the nominee as his running mate. I don't think that either one of the ladies will get past the RNC convention choice, only by being chosen by the candidate will they get into the Whitehouse. I 'd like to be wrong, but I don't think that I am……….. I don't want a RINO, but we MUST pick someone that will appeal to Independents. Independents make up a "huge voting block'' and without them, we loose. Last time we lost because the Independents went over to team Obama….. That narrows our top position a bit……………Some one like a Perry or Pawlenty, a conservative who is not BLATANT about being more than a good Republican, could make it it. I personally don't care for Pawlenty because he is too soft in his style. Maybe he's not, but his manner screams "softie." to me. We want to see a certain "toughness." {A hard core, Tea Party, Constitutionalist, won't get the nomination by the RNC, let's face it } So we persuade a good conservative to CHOOSE our Tea Party candidate as his running mate. In fact, we make him promise, in order to obtain our support. This is what I've come to believe may happen. I'd like to be wrong, but I bet I'm not. So far, I'm leaning "Perry" because of his remarkable record of business in his state. Yes, he's got some negatives, but when his people didn't like project and he was forced to back off and cancell. His positives far out-weigh his negatives. He's brilliant, using Reaganonimics in his state to make it the most prosperous and business friendly and he's Christian. To me, believing in God is EXTREMELY important. It speaks to the right values and morals and to the fiber of our nation. Without these attritributes, as a nation, we are sunk. I don't see anyone else with such a PROVEN record on creating jobs for his citizens and I think as a nation, we need his toughness and obvious skills……..I'm still researching and studying the candidates, but so far, this is where I'm at.

Liberals fear that Romney will be able to make a strong case against re-electing President Obama!

  • Charlie

Romney quit Massachusetts because he thought he had a shot at furthering his political aspirations, just like some of the other "rats." He talks the talk, but is synonymous with that sickening word—-"Liberal." Mitt Romney is (really) not a conservative, but wants people to believe he is, so he can fool them out of their votes. Mitt Romney will NOT be good for you and he will not be good for America. I hope more and more people are able to see through his little charade. We need someone honest, and straight forward—someone who will bring this country back to what it should be. Someone who will finally stand up and say "NO" to the closed door politics, and "NO" to the Liberals who have not only have run this country into the ground, but caused us a great deal of embarrassment along the way. Tomorrow I'll let you know how I really feel.

  • bluqe

I for one am becoming a fan of Michele Bachmann. She has a great presense and is inteeresting with sound ideas. She will find the going will get tougher as time goes on and she had best be prepared for the same type of treatment Sarah Palin recieved from those on both sides of the isle. I still to this day feel she was the only really valid candidate runningh in 2008.

McCain ran the dullest campaign in history and let the political activist beat him to a pulp. A really poor showing and frankly as much as I respect him, I don't want him out front in anything this time around.

The republican party has some good strong women, Bachmann, Palin, and Condoleeza Rice just to name a few. Lets keep an open mind, but it is a must win situation for us.

  • Daniel T. Osborn

I think Michelle Bachmann is a great choice. I agree (unfortunately) with those who say a ticket of Bachmann/Palin or Palin/Bachmann could be a phenomenal solid conservative team, but probably will never happen. I just couldn't see either one saying yes to V.P. I think we have got to get Col. West to run, whether at the top of the ticket or as V.P. choice. West teamed with one of these outstanding women could prove unbeatable, IF they stay away from people in GOP like McCain's campaign handlers who took to sabotaging Palin towards the end of the race.
