Saint Bono and His Endless Crusade

Wow. I make a living taking on corrupt unions and incompetent politicians, but I’ve never experienced the kind of vitriol like what I’ve received criticizing U2 lead singer Bono for his tireless and tiring political activism.

The article in question, originally published in the Baltimore Sun, prompted representatives from Bono’s non-profit ONE campaign to pester the Sun, challenging me (unsuccessfully) on the facts. Now Maryland Senator Ben Cardin (D) is attacking me for daring to challenge St. Bono and the efficacy of ONE.

Cardin accuses me of spreading “misinformation” (read: lies) about ONE. In a letter to the Sun, posted on his official United States Senate website, Cardin writes:

Rather than Mr. Patterson’s suggestion that ONE is somehow a failed charity, they are, in fact, a global advocacy organization fighting poverty in Africa by moving government officials to better use development assistance funding to reach the largest amount of people.

      Bono does more Christian type charity work, wich is no different than secular humanitarian work wilthout blessings than any other Christian organization doing the same kind of work.

    Its time Americans reclaimed the values that their parents and grandparents had and say ” No More ” to the freaky drug addicted sexually perverted celebrity crowd who hate this country.

      Bono takes in millions of $$$$$$$ and keeps it – pays himself $$$$$$$$ – charities get almost 0!!!!!

    Anyone who would support a charity that only delivers one percent of the donations it receives to the cause for which those donations were given, should be investigated along with the charitable organization itself. So now the question should be, has Senator Ben Cardin received any campaign contributions from this charitable organization, or any organization the Senator is associated with received any funding from this charitable organization, or any of his family or relatives? Also what happened to the almost 7 million dollars that this article has not accounted for that this charitable organization had received, but shows no record of what happened to it? If this charitable organization is registered in the US and is afforded non-profit status and tax deductible donation status, then the US Governmant should, and is required by law because of the low percentage being used for the cause of the donations, investigate the charitable organization, and should includ Senator ben Cardin in that investigation.

    Advocating for the tax dollars of others be used for charitable purposes, just means you are advocating for high taxes to be imposed on others, while you enjoy adulation for advocacy, but not for any actual charitable actions.
    I think some do-gooders should stop advocating for everyone else's money to be taken from them by government edict for charitable purposes, and those folks should start spending their own money on such activities.
    Its not charity when you are spending everyone else's money. And if Bono's operations are so large they require many millions for salaries, etc., then it sounds like a bloated & out of control bureaucracy. (Millions for salaries? Just how many people does he employ in this altruistic operation of his??)

    Bono and Oprah should move to Africa, and take all the Obama’s with them, and STAY there. I’ve never understood why, with all the money they have between them, why don’t they build a water filtration plant for Africa if they’re so concerned about them? Sure Oprah’s school for just girls is nice, but think how many others she could help with water. I would say water is a more pressing issue, and SHE can afford to do BOTH.

    Bono is just another irrelevant blowhard whose ego is much larger than his brain. Another Sean Penn clone who thinks their status as an entertainer elevattes them to a higher level. Why would anyone who is a citizen of this country worry about Africa when we have people in this country that could use help. What the Africans need more than anything is education. Ditto for Mexico and other Third World countries that hate the U.S. but want our help on a never-ending basis. Screw them all-charity begins at home. Bono needs to go to rehab.
