Did FOX News Deceptively Doctor Jimmy Hoffa ‘Violent Speech’ Video?

[Editor's note: We want to know your thoughts.]

While we aren’t fans of Jimmy Hoffa, we are fans of getting the most accurate version of a reported story out even if that story is not in our favor. Truth telling, not bearing false witness, like not stealing, is fundamental to good reporting.

It has come to our attention that a recent Jimmy Hoffa ‘call to violence’ sounds more like a ‘get out the vote’ speech with the use of some uncivil and even violent rhetoric. FOX News released a clip of Hoffa’s Detroit speech on Monday. Left out of the clip was the entire context of Hoffa’s speech. It has been reported by some that FOX News has used the entire clip in their TV show, but what is making the rounds on the internet is the edited version.

Let’s be clear, “Let’s take these son of bitches out” is way over the top, so much so that Mr. Hoffa should resign from his union leadership position. If a conservative leader had said anything similar, he would be packing his bags today.

By editing the speech, FOX is giving Hoffa and his supporters cover. They can rightly say, “The speech was edited.”

This is how Hoffa’s remarks are currently being reported by most Conservative news organizations (Section in bold is my doing and is the most pertinent piece. It sounds like violent rhetoric with a violent call to action; Chicago style:

“President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. Let’s take these son of bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong,” Hoffa added.

Now, let’s revisit the bolded section when it is left unedited:

President Obama, this is your army. We are ready to march. And President Obama, we want one thing: jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs, jobs. That’s what we’re going to tell him. He’s gonna be [stutter] and when he sees what we’re doing here, he will be inspired. But he needs help. And you know what? Everybody here’s got to vote. If we go back, and we keep the eye on the prize. Let’s take these son of a bitches out and give America back to an America where we belong.

Please remove us from your mailing list. I'm not sure who you are, but suggesting that by cutting out some of what crazy Jimmy Hoffa said in some way diminishes or changes his intent to foment ill feelings against the tea party, is over the top. Sorry. Don't want to hear from you again.

  • That Mouthy Lady

The problem is you somehow see a moral equivalent between what the Tea Party means when THEY say "Get the Leftists out," & what someone such as =Hoffa= means when saying the same thing. They are NOT the same thing!

Hoffa & most other giant unionists have a proven history of VIOLENT methods of opposition, & when one of THEM says "take them out," we MUST assume the probability that the phrase has violent connotations, whereas TEA PARTIERS are NON-violent, & if WE say, "The Left must be taken out," SENSIBLE, FAIR minds know we're talking about POLITICAL methods–NOT thugs with bludgeons going after kneecaps & worse!

As a former member of the media (radio), & a regular watcher of Fox News, I saw the FULL quote, as did countless others, & I KNOW the shorter versions are the standard among all news media. Once the original quote has been aired, it is assumed it's part of the public's knowledge, & shorter versions are merely reference points. Fox isn't HIDING =anything.= It's just crediting its audience with common sense & brains. If anyone wants more info than the crowded arena of current news allows, one may always look up the full version.

    No-one is =cheating= the public.

Both versions say the same thing; the "context" doesn't change anything. There is no story here!

Note to the editor: I agree in part with you but you must know that what Mr. Hoffa is talking about is union jobs only and not non-union jobs and he will do his best to insure non-union people are not part of the equation.

I am well aware of his fathers past and his union/mafia connections and you can bet the son is no different. Their violent history toward non-union workers and their tactics to stop non-union people from working are well documented. The Verizon strike is just one of the latest. They have put a number of businesses into bankruptcy due to their greed.

How many other of the media even reported his remarks? That is a question that should be asked and did they leave out the remarks the conservatives found offensive?

Now I am convinced that this is not really a conservative site. As a college speech and English professor, I see no difference in the versions. Things are edited for brevity and clarity. There is no intent to deceive here. Guess I'll take what this site puts out with a grain or two of salt.

Hoffa and Obama-2 peas in a pod they are the SOB's—-MAFIA-CROOKS

  • Charles

    So, what's the difference?

  • JollyRaider

What deception? I fail to see it. The unedited version changes nothing. The ranted hate and vulger call for violence is obviuos. It is what it is regardless. This guy is nothing but a thug and thank you FOX news for reporting the obvious. I doubt the other Obama loving networks gave it much attention as they are usually in the habit of looking the other way when it comes to Obama's incompetance. Obama has done more to destroy jobs and the American dream and way of life than anyone can ever imagine. What nerve his thug has. Change? We are getting change alright. All I can say is change it back before it is too late.

It doesn't matter what he said. It all adds up to only one thing…the unions want to control the government, and, therefore, the country. Actions, not words, tell me a whole lot more.
