Did Harry Reid Accidentally Set Stage for ObamaCare Repeal?

On Thursday, the US senate was poised to cast a pro forma vote on final passage of a China currency bill when Senate Republicans attempted to use the rules of the Senate to attach a post-cloture amendment. The Republican amendment would have required a vote on President Obama’s jobs bill, forcing Democrats to vote on the plan the president has been blaming Republicans for blocking. Because there are insufficient votes among Senate Democrats to force closure or pass the bill, allowing the amendment would have blown up the charade that congressional Republicans are the lone roadblock to Obama’s jobs bill.

Senate Majority Leader Reid objected to the affirmative ruling on the amendment and forced a vote along party lines, 51-48,  to overrule the parliamentarian’s decision to allow it. Reid’s move effectively eliminates the minority’s ability to offer amendments, casting aside Senate history and precedent to change Senate rules simply to avoid a vote on a jobs plan his Democratic president has been demanding from Congress.

The Reid move establishes a dangerous precedent for the minority party. The repeal of Obamacare in January, 2013, may have just shifted from “possibility” to “likelihood,” thanks to a senior Senator who changed the rules simply to avoid embarrassment. Harry’s problems may be just beginning.

    The US Supreme Court can invalidate any bill passed by Congress, no matter what clauses are in them. When a bill or law is passed that is unconstitutional, the US Supreme Court can 'throw out' that bill or law. Judgment on Constitutional Means or Bases, is the whole purpose of the US Supreme Court. Yes, I will contend that as of late, several of the Supreme Court Justices seem more concerned about International Law, than the US Constitution.

    Obamacare is based on Commerce Laws. I personally, think the Democratic Congress was stretching pretty far, on that assumption. Hopefully, the US Supreme Court will take the lawsuits of 26 States and rule on Obamacare's mandatory provisions. Should the US Supreme Court rule in favor of the 26 States, that action alone will not make Obamacare nil, but, it will be the start of the unraveling of Obamacare. From doing a lot of reading, since Obamacare is so vast and big, it will probably take several attempts to completely eradicate it.

    The most important thing is for those of us who oppose Obamacare, is to have patience. I know that this heinous bill was passed with approximately only 5% of the Members of Congress, even having a vague idea of what was in it. The rest, simply went mostly along party lines, just like sheep following a goat. We must remember, that some Dems opposed Obamacare and some GOPs voted for it.

    I think that it is interesting, Michelle Obama is finally 'proud' of her country, for the first time in her lifetime. I, however, am ashamed of my country, for the first time in my 68 years. US Citizens Rights are quickly slipping away, with this Administration and Congress. I see, that the USA will become part of the World Order, within this century. Liberty and Freedom are dying before my eyes, as civil unrest is coming to the USA. These protests on Wall Street are just the beginning and it will only get worse.

    Expecting the newly elected Republican majority in the House and Senate in January 2013 to repeal Obamacare should not even be necessary. If the Supreme Court would just expedite the case in front of them, then the taxpayers wouldn’t have to waste any more billions of dollars to fund the bloated bureaucracy that’s necessary for the government to take control of a vast chunk of the entire healthcare industry. My complaint is that the justices have deliberately chosen to entirely sidestep any potential conflicts with this White House.

    However, it would be in the best interest of the new legislature to repeal all 2000+ pages of Dodd-Frank and reinstate the Glass-Steagall Act. That seven page bill worked well for almost 80 years while Dodd-Frank has already done considerable damage to our financial infrastructure in this brief period of time without being even close to full implementation.

    God Bless America and pray for the wisdom of the electorate to throw the socialists out of office during upcoming elections.

    People, people, people! Some of you are not aware that Chris Dodd is gone. Wisely he chose not to run for reelection during the last cycle. Next, it’s highly unlikely that Harry Reid could have any intention of running for President: he’s unpopular nationally and probably couldn’t corral up enough union and casino employees on busses to vote for him again. Finally to the author of the earlier blog who was self-proclaimed “thinking outside the box”: yes, Harry did make an off-color racial remark and may secretly harbor some disdain for Obama. But please don’t foster the false belief that he hates Obama and will come riding to the aid of America in 2013 when Obamacare goes down in flames. Reid, Schumer, Durbin, Pelosi, Frank and their ilk actually believe that this socialism is good for America. As difficult as it may seem, there are legislators in congress who truly believe in socialism and cast their votes to destroy our freedoms consistently and religiously every chance they get.

    The only way to rid ourselves of this socialistic cancer is to vote them out of office. I’ll take a petty capitalist crook in office any day than an honest socialist. America can survive the former but will suffer under the latter.

    Harry Reid and the Progressive Liberals in this country may be the minority in acutal numbers but due to their high levels of authority, they are able to move this nation closer into a European style of government and the "majority" that don't want it to happen continue voting them back into office because they vote on what they say they will do for their constituents, not what they acutal do when returned to Washington. Same for the RINO's (Republicans In Name Only). We will only clean up Washington is we allow new faces to join others who really do care about the future of our kids. Frank Gregg

    It should be obvious that the Senate hasn't been doing their jobs in that they refused to disqualify the judge candidates for the Supreme Court, appointed by Obama , that helped him plan the Healthcare Bill to prevent it being overturned by the Supreme Court ; even after every Republican Senator was personally warned by me that that was his intention in appointing them. In addition I sent them copies of his REAL birth certificate from Kenya,East Africa, that he admitted to in his speech when he first ran for the Senate. So why didn't they start proceedings to IMPEACH him? It should also be obvious that they made a DEAL with him to keep him from cutting their RETIREMENT and Congressional Healthcare bills which they passed for their personal BENEFIT ,THUS PLACING THEMSELVES ABOVE THE PEOPLE THEY WERE ELECTED TO REPRESENT and above GOD to extend their lives beyond that which they were granted by GOD and WHICH are UNCONSTITUTIONAL.

    Liberals love it when things like this work in their favor but they will want it both ways when it goes against them.
