School District Must Pay Muslim Teacher for Trip to Mecca

With unemployment mired above nine percent and new jobless claims hovering at 400,000 a week, the Obama administration needed a victory, and at last it has one. The Justice Department has forced a Middle American school district to pay a Muslim teacher $75,000 and implement a sensitivity training course throughout the district, after administrators refused to allow the new hire to take three weeks off for a trip to Mecca in 2008.

Safoorah Khan had held her job as a math lab instructor at McArthur Middle School in Berkeley, Illinois, less than a year when she asked unpaid leave to make hajj, the once-in-a-lifetime religious requirement that is one of the five pillars of Islam. The school district noted that she asked for the leave immediately before exams, was the only instructor in her department, and that the teachers’ union-brokered contract offered her infidel counterparts no comparable leave. Last December, the Justice Department filed suit against the district after the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission reported her complaint. The DoJ argued administrators had violated Title VII of the 1964 Civil Rights Act, discriminating against Khan because of her religion.

On Thursday, all Eric Holder’s men announced the school district had entered into a consent agreement to pay the Muslim mathematician $75,000 in compensation and damages.

    How is the courts sided with this teacher? Common sense was at one time a characteristic we prided ourselves in having. Apparently it is not a requirement for our DOJ or federal judges. So sad.

    The woman should be fired. She's not a teacher. First of all, she took the job knowing she would want off at a certain time. Teachers think first of their students and not themselves. This woman is not thinking of the students. She needed to go to Mecca in the summer when she is not required to be at her job. Shame on her causing the educational system hardship. Fire her and anyone like her.

    Why don't all teachers declare themselves to be Muslim and ask for the same treatment? Everyone of them gets a $75,000 raise and a trip to Mecca.

    Of course then the minority would be the few christians and they would be able to claim religious discrimination and get to to the the Holy Land themselves.

Next case on their agenda: Illegal aliens file discrimination suit because they aren't allowed to go back and forth between their country and the US without having to go thru immigration. This is just plain ridiculous. i am so sick and tired of these people wanting special treatment, Muslims, illegals, idiots. They aren't entitled to having their so called "Religious beliefs" paid for just because they want to go back home for "Haji". This is such a slap in our faces, knowing she can do this, yet we aren't allowed to protect ourselves from illegal occupation of our country. BS, and I don't mean Barrack Stupid. These ridculous decisions by the Department of the Jerks has got to be stopped before it bankrupts our school system, our country, and us. Piss on all these people that expect special treatment.     She did n ot get her way when using communication and stating her plight to the school, so she decides to cry discrimination when she does not get her way like a spoiled little baby. This had nothing to do with religion and everything to do with a person manipulating the system to get what they want. Now that she knows she can get away with it, I am sure she will tell her Muslim friends and do it again at some point when things dont go her way. What a friggin joke.

    Why would the Justice Dept get involved? Eric Holder has yet to try Major Hassan who killed all those people at Fort Worth, treating him with kid gloves because of his muslim religion and now these. Holder needs to be removed and so does Obama.
