Bachmann: ‘Too Many Republicans … Aspire to Be Frugal Socialists’

Rep. Michele Bachmann (R-Minn.), who is running for president, said Monday that “too many Republicans … aspire to be frugal socialists” who “share the same core political philosophy about the purpose of government” as President Barack Obama.

When asked to name the Republicans she was speaking about, Bachman jokingly told a reporter, “That’s part of the puzzle you get to figure out when I give the speech.”

Speaking at the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., Bachmann warned that if the United States was not willing to make major changes in cutting spending it would end up like Greece, which has gone bankrupt and required a bailout from European neighbors.

I've been following Michele for several years. Despite occasional off-beat remarks (who's not guilty of that?), nobody in the Republican Party sticks to the theme of restoring the republic like her. If you've really paid attention, you'd be aware of that. While others see specific problems and try to address them individually, she addresses the threat to the one guarantee of the Constitution–a republican (small 'r') form of government, whose tenants are:
    * Authority to govern granted by the consent of the governed, * rule of law, * the sovereign individual, * equality under the law, * self-reliance empowered by unalienable rights, * respect for the rights of the minority,* deliberative public reasoning.Addressing that requires pointing out the transgressors, like Obama. It requires pointing out the events of the last 100 years that have ushered in more and more dependency, and recently, of even large corporations. Before the bailouts, we were screaming about MORAL HAZARD. The bailout of auto companies alone breached each of the tenants above. It was repeated for ObamaCare, TARP. These are just the latest examples, but they are especially bold transgressions.

Beyond that, I'll take her stance on religion over Obama's Liberation Theology any day.

RINO's are not the majority of Republican's unfortunelately they are the majority of Republicans that participate in caucusses. Does anyone believe if for a moment that the Republican's were to list the presidential position on the fall primary ballot McCain would have had a chance. No they will not allow us to have a conservative and Perot showed how well a third party candidate can do. We have only a few months to take over the Republican party and force a real primary, or get a repeat of 2008.

Bachman, Perry and Cain got the word from a burning bush to run for Presicent, I wonder wich one of the two was a put on. In the last election only George got the go ahead from the burning bush.

She is right. We have to cut spending. But not over the course of 10 or 20 years. It must be done now. All government agencies must be put on ice. Bring all troops home from overseas bases. End all baseline budgeting. We're on the same path as the USSR. We will no longer exist as a country if we don't get our fiscal house in order.
