Senate Defies Obama Veto Threat in Terrorist Custody Vote

Defying a veto threat from President Obama, the Senate voted Tuesday to preserve language that would give the U.S. military a crack at al Qaeda operatives captured in the U.S., even if they are American citizens.

Led by Sen. Carl Levin, the Michigan Democrat who chairs the Senate Armed Services Committee, senators voted 61-37 to preserve the language that gives the military custody of al Qaeda suspects, rather than turning them over to law enforcement officials.

“We are at war with al Qaeda and people determined to be part of al Qaeda should be treated as people who are at war with us,” Mr. Levinsaid.

He and Arizona Sen. John McCain, the ranking Republican on his committee, had struck a deal earlier this month on giving the military priority custody, while allowing the administration to waive that and give civilian authorities priority if it deems the waiver in the interests of national security.

This is only 'Smoke & Mirrors' as a 'Last Hail Mary' to save Obama from being defeated in 2012…Our Congress, by passing this unconstitutional Bill to revoke our 6th Amendment Right to Due Process: This Bill will be submitted to Obama so he can Veto the Bill, Obama will then claim he will up hold the US Constitution, whereas he has done more damage than any other president in our history to destroy our US Constitution! Case in point, in 2007, a Federal Judge in Portland Oregon ( U.S. District Judge Ann Aiken ruled that the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act, as amended by the Patriot Act, "now permits the executive branch of government to conduct surveillance and searches of American citizens without satisfying the probable cause requirements of the Fourth Amendment.") found two portions of the 'Patriot Act' was unconstitutional, the Federal Government did not appeal this decision because the government believed the Supreme Court as 'Seated' would uphold her legal decision and become the 'Law of the Land', not just in the Portland Judicial District. America, PLEASE do your own research, our US Constitution is under attack!

    I’ve read the bill and the part about American citizens and it basically states if say or do anything that promotes Al Quida such as when they give a village food to buy their allegience you say that’s not a bad thing then you are allying with the enemy and you may be picked up and held without trial and held by the U.S. or sent to your country of origin or any other foreign entity. That’s the part that gets me. Even as a citizen if I say anything regarding the enemy I may be sent to a foreign goverment where my rights are not guarenteed. This is overstepping our constitution. I have fought for my country for 22 years including the War on Terrorism and our biggest threats are sitting in D.C. right now. Its time for them to go one way or the Other.
