FCC Official: Internet Freedom Threatened

The United States is unprepared for an international fight that’s brewing over whether the Internet will remain free from government regulations or fall increasingly under the control of emerging global powers, Federal Communications Commissioner Robert McDowell warned Monday

“The proponents of Internet freedom and prosperity have been asleep at the switch,” Mr. McDowell, the lone Republican serving at the FCC, told editors and reporters at The Washington Times. “Or maybe I should say asleep at the router.”

The 193-member International Telecommunications Union (ITU), a U.N.agency, will meet in Dubai next December to renegotiate the 24-year-old treaty that deals with international oversight of the Internet. A growing number of countries are pushing greater governmental control and management of the Web’s availability, financial model and infrastructure.

They believe the current model is “dominated” by the U.S., and want to “take that control and power away,” Mr. McDowell said. China and Russiasupport the effort, but so do non-Western U.S. allies such as Brazil, South Africa and India.

    The U.S. needs to get out of the U.N., quit funding the organizatiion and tell it to move its headquarters somewhere else. The American people do not want foriegn entities telling us what to do. Obama has to go.

      Everyone I know has been begging their entire lives for us to get out of the UN. Why have our elected representatives failed to listen to us? From what I have read, they are almost all in favor of one-world government, as though it is inevitable. Even Newt Gingrich is a CFR member. It is my belief that we are going to be forced down this road whether we want to or not. We are being herded by our own government into the New World Order. When obama told Joe the Plumber that "it's time to spread the wealth around," he didn't mean to just spread it in the U.S. He meant to spread it WORLDWIDE. And that's where the global warming myth comes in. Cap and Trade will steal from wealthy industrialized countries and the money will go to poor countries . We will all be equally poor, but ruled by elites like the obamas and clintons who will continue to live their fancy lifestyles. Just like communist Russia.

    If the United States had a real American for President, he would not let the Global Commies have any power over our freedoms as we experience with our internet. You can bet Obama will bow and praise all the world's commies at what a wonderful World Unification Model the internet will offer under the management of the Global Soros World Order.         That's right the dims and marxist/socialists/fascists will all have to be removed out of this country to have a chance at making it better! We need to get rid of all dims! The dims as in–clinton–don't do anything but go to communist countries and try to bring ideas from those countries and make them work here in America! But that is not happening!     Dr. Ron Paul is the ONLY Presidential candidate that will get us out of the UN and all their increases in control over our sovereignty. The UN's Agenda 21 or now relabeled Sustainable Development is one of the greatest threats to our country in our history. Romney and Gingrich are nothing more than big government Republicans who will continue Obama's agenda.     Just more and more of that control over the American people and taking away their freedoms to satisfy other countries or organizations and bending and bowing to outside entities. Those running our country seem to have no backbone when it comes to standing firm and not taking this country down paths that will lead to a communist country – I know this is part of the New World Order and I just believe we are not far from that coming to be reality soon.

        Whatever works. I can't believe we haven't run our fictitious President out of town already. We've had two or three opportunities to impeach him, and have let them all pass by us. Why? Ron Paul is one of the few that even called Obama down when he bombed Libya with the UN's go ahead, but without approval from Congress. Another Obama offense to his oath to uphold our Constitution was when an American citizen was assassinated by one of our troops on foreign soil, without a trial or a conviction of being a 'terrorist'. Then there is the birth certificate issue and the fact that our current President is not 'naturally born' to this Nation, since only one parent was a legal citizen. That is beside the fact that Obama was supposedly born in Hawaii, but has a Connecticut social security card . . . Really? The man should be investigated and probably jailed for his actions.

    In the history of our country no president has ever jeoperdized our freedom like obama has. To allow the U.N. to dictate law to the American Citizens outside of the U.S. Constitution is an act of Treason plain and simple. But also is a Potus whom is not legal to hold the office. All states should have a ballot on their next election to evict the U.N. out of the United States and dissolve any affilation with them. They have cost American tax-payers trillions of dollars year after year and do nothing for us but take our freedoms away.

    The internet is one of the last frontiers of freedom left to the average peon in the USA. The feds got their boxers in a bunch because there is little or no control over the content and who can tell whom what about any subject. Particularly the escapades of the politicians who want all public pablum to be pre-filtered by their controlled media, as in praises for the chosen one in spite of solid proof of corruption to the core. Like that ‘test’ a few weeks ago, where da man wanted to be able to seize ‘emergency control’ of the entire TV and radio networks of the entire country, they also want an ‘off’ button for the internet to assure total blackout of information should the ‘need’ arise. Like next fall, when the planned riots by the leftist mobs known as ‘occupiers’ cause the excuse for martial law before the elections, perhaps.
