House Votes to Block Obama Request for Another $1.2 Trillion in Debt

The House on Wednesday kicked off the new Congressional session by passing a resolution to reject President Barack Obama’s call to raise the debt limit by another $1.2 trillion.

The resolution was passed by Republicans on a mostly party-line vote of 239 to 176. Rep. David Dreier (R. –Calif.) was the only Republican voting no, six Democrats voted yes.

However, the largely symbolic resolution is not expected to pass the Democratic-controlled Senate during a vote next week or advance to the White House, which means the national debt will automatically increase to $16.4 trillion.

The so-called resolution of disapproval is the only option available to stop what are now automatic debt increases triggered by the Budget Control Act that passed the House in August by a vote of 269-161 with 174 Republicans and 95 Democrats voting in favor of the new law.

There have already been two automatic increases since its passage totaling $9 billion, but Wednesday’s action sought to block until after the November election the third and final increase expected.

    We needed more Democrats siding with the GOP, without them it just gives OBAMA that needed edge.Even though they (the Dems) know they are wrong, the only thing left is vote them out of office, and that includes OBAMA, but it is easier said than done for a lot of voters are on the dole(food stamps, etc., etc.), and we can't let them down (like hell).

    WHY IN HELL ARE THEY EVEN VOTING ON THIS ISSUE? There is no way to stop it. It will get raised no matter what. The best thing would be to let this thing pass without going on record one way or the other. You have given Obama another political win by going on the record. He can now say that Republican are wanting seniors to not get their checks. If they would have taken NO VOTE then the only person who's finger prints would be on the increase would have been Obama's.

    Raising the national debt by 1.2 trillion is a done deal! Obama and the Democratic controlled Senate already have this increase in the bag despite the House rejecting it 239 to 136. We are now at the point where our national debt is greater than our GDP. This is the same course that brought Greece down and the other PIIGS nations are in the same boat. If we do not elect a conservative, fiscally responsible, patriotic President in 2012, we will not have to look on TV at the riots in Greece and shake our heads, we will be able to look at the main streets of America and see the very same thing.

    They must posture first and then go along with whatever the agenda is. It is not going to change until they are replaced and I mean all of them! Every time the GOP say they will take a stand. They mean for a day or so, then It's OK to let the dictator do whatever he would like to do. Can anyone remember when it was otherwise? Party politics has no place. Everyone should vote their constituency wishes and that is all. When they ignore their wishes they should be removed Can anyone tell me why we even bother to post anything, It means nothing anyway..

    which also 'included Atomic-Weapons' which we carried in Aircraft'-! If I'd had one meeting with a known-radical 'Surversive Organization" suchas Obama's had contacts with–"I know that my Clearance would "Not Have Been Issued"-!

    Thank god we now getting the house to do something good for the american people . I just hope the senate has the same common sense to do the same. Our president does not seem to be very accountable. some one need to stept in and show him the right thing to do . He has not clue.

    It's just a vote for show, it means nothing. In the last debt ceiling skirmish, Boehner made the agreement to let Hussain raise the debt ceiling as long as they got to vote, like a protest vote! It MEANS NOTHING! THE CEILING WILL BE RAISED!!!! Thanks Boehner!

    Living like losers with losers’ budgets.  Rule number one of finance = spend less that what you make or live within your means.  Go ahead libs, spend some more money you don’t have.  And you so-called middle class, which the left have been saying that it is shrinking, you think it will help you?  Yes, go ahead with that credit card.  Pay the interests on your credit cards with another credit card.  Good!!  We will lend you the money and collect the interests, losers!  There are reasons why some of us are rich and most people are poor.
