Catholics rally against Obama contraception mandate

From Maine to Arizona to southern Louisiana, Catholic churches across the country echoed with scorn for a new federal rule requiring faith-based employers to include birth control and other reproductive services in their health care coverage.

Dozens of priests took the rare step of reading letters from the pulpit urging parishioners to reach out to Washington and oppose the rule, enacted Jan 20.

The rule requires nearly all employers to provide their employees access to health insurance that covers artificial contraception, sterilization services and the “morning after” birth control pill.

The mandate exempts individual churches but applies to Catholic universities, Catholic-based charities and to groups affiliated with Methodists, Baptists and other denominations.

Roman Catholic leaders morally oppose artificial birth control and related services, and they called the rule an infringement on their constitutional rights.

    I'm a Roman Catholic. It's about time the Catholic Leaders grow the balls to start fighting back. Protestant Ministers have been doing this for years. Now all Christian Faiths need to ban together and do everything Big Brother says we can't do and force them to take us before the Supreme Ct. We have to end this war on Christianity now. It has been going on too long.

      What counts is not weather you are Catholic, Baptist, Methodist, or whatever denomination. What matters, are you a Christian that is my denomination. That is all that matters, that you can claim that name by living it.

    I have nothing to say good about Obama, and think he is thw worst president we have ever had, but with all of th problems we have in this Counrty I think that contraception should be a non-issue.

    This is clearly an enfringement on our Religious Rights and the Constitution. This is not a duty or responsibility of the Federal Government. All Christian Religions and their members should be concerned about this.

    I see nothing wrong with contraception. But the "morning after pill" is NOT contraception, for it does not prevent conception, it causes the embryonic blastula cells to abort.

    Catholics are a mixed-breed. They are right on abortion, wrong on illegal immigration, and wrong about contraceptives being morally wrong.

      You are WRONG when you try to tell a religion that your protestant way is right and everyone else is wrong. The first step to destroying a country is to destroy it’s moral leaders.     Ricbee. It is said that Hitler was being counseled by his advisers on some issue dealing with organized religion during WW II
    One of the advisers said in effect that the Pope would not be pleased if he took a certain course of action. Hitlers response
    was a cynical laugh and a reply of "How many divisions does the Pope have/" Render unto the emperor what is the emperors and unto God what is Gods. I guess the moral of the story is keep your government under control by participaing in it, keep an armed and watchful citizenry, and be willing to defend your faith and/or your ideals as well as your country, from enemies foreign or domestic.

    In the final analysis it does not matter if you are Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian or any other Christian group. We have a
    person sitting in the White House that has declared war on all Christians or person who hold a different religious view
    other than islam. He has said our nation is no longer a Christian nation, but he did not say what we were in his eyes.
    Satan was the great corrupter in the Christian religion and obama is one of his minions. You cannot compare him to Hitler
    because Hitler love his country, obama does not now nor never has loved America nor does he follow the Christian principles. Like most democrats they promote and fund abortion clinics to destroy life but unfortunately many Christian will still vote for him blindly without regard to the deaths he promotes.

    I urge everyone with an interest in this to go to whitehouse.gov and look under RECENT PETITIONS and sign the one that is there. It says so many thousands of signatures are needed before the Prez will even consider looking at it. Heck, he might not even look at it if there ARE thousands of signatures, but there should be no trouble in getting the required number, given the number of devoted Catholics in the USA. Sign up now!

    I signed off conservative Byte a week ago for the same reason. A number of times I wrote my opinion using no fowl language or racist remarks. If it was against obama they moderated it. I've come to believe they are more liberal than conservative.
