Top 10 Ways Washington Annoys the Heartland

Anger against Congress, federal bureaucrats, lobbyists and all that is Washington has been boiling over in America’s Heartland—with good reason. The nation’s capital spews out toxic solutions to correct non-problems and never ceases to amaze with its hypocrisy. Too harsh? Here’s the proof: The Top 10 ways Washington annoys the Heartland.

1. Budgetary blues

Imagine, if you will, a major corporation trying to run itself without having a budget for three years. Its officials undoubtedly would be hauled into jail for violating Sarbanes-Oxley. Yet that is exactly what Washington is doing, as the Democratic-controlled Senate has bottled up passage of a budget for over 1,000 days—leading to endless battles over omnibus spending bills and continuing resolutions, both convenient vehicles for fiscal mischief.

2. Constitutional contempt

When the President unconstitutionally makes recess appointments with the Senate not in recess, what are the American people to think? In fact, the entire federal behemoth is based, in large part, on a total disregard for the Constitution, as the 9th and 10th Amendments—giving powers to the states—are routinely ignored.

    The $50 Lesson

Recently, while I was working in the flower beds
in the front yard, my neighbors stopped to chat
as they returned home from walking their dog.

During our friendly conversation, I asked their
little girl what she wanted to be when she grows up.

She said she wanted to be President some day.

Both of her parents, liberal Democrats, were standing
there, so I asked her, "If you were President what
would be the first thing you would do?"

She replied… "I'd give food and houses to all
    the homeless people."

    Her parents beamed with pride!

    "Wow…what a worthy goal!" I said. "But you don't
have to wait until you're President to do that!" I told her.

"What do you mean?" she replied.

So I told her, "You can come over to my house and
mow the lawn, pull weeds, and trim my hedge, and
I'll pay you $50. Then you can go over to the grocery
store where the homeless guy hangs out, and you
can give him the $50 to use toward food and a new
    house."

She thought that over for a few seconds, then she
looked me straight in the eye and asked, "Why
doesn't the homeless guy come over and do the
work, and you can just pay him the $50?"

I said, "Welcome to the Republican Party."

Her parents aren't speaking to me.

        Thank you John…

Awesome Raymond! Whether you did that or not, that is where we need to go. In my church I am considered the cruel one. I serve on an childrens education committee. Every fund raiser the kids go about doing what they are told without a clue. That is OK. This next fund raiser is a breakfast. The older kids are cooking, the little ones are serving. Those of the congration that choose to attend will be served by the children and the children earn tip money for their service. Real money, and don't tip them just because they are cute kids. When they get their tip they have to then donate it. A little closer to reality. Hopefully it will begin a much needed economic training for these really great kids.

    • Sally

I love your idea!! I will be letting my children's ministry know about this. Maybe my church could do this. I know they are often looking for novel ways to teach the kids various life lessons!

Missing fro this list, although implied, is the general contempt Washington displays to the electorate, particularly those in what they describe as 'flyover country.' We're continuously subjected to "do as I say, not as I do" and "we know what's best for you" attitudes. Then these inside the beltway types express puzzlement as to why polls show that Americans have never held them in such low esteem.

Respect is an honor that is bestowed, not assumed.

In other words we are pissed off.

  • TOO INFORMED

I have to assume the "administrator" is anti American. There was nothing in my comment that was disparaging.

    • John

Try not to be too upset. I am frequently frustrated when the administrators on blogs will not allow my comments to viewed. Try to re-word your comments, and resubmit them. I have been blocked by Conservative Byte, and I don't know why. It would be nice if the administrators would tell you what they find offensive. On the other hand, it is their blog, and they don't have to legally allow you to express your opinion.

You and I have had the same difficulty with the sam web site; don't know why either. I never use foul, four letter language; I can get my point across without them. I never put anyone down, though I have fired back on unfair and unwarranted criticism. So I identify with what you're saying.
PS: I have never entered anything on that other site, and won't try again. I just throw it out without comment.

  • TOO INFORMED

USAPATRIOT is: Uniting and Strengthening America by Providing Appropriate Tools Required to Intercept and Obstruct Terrorism. It should read: Using and Strangling America by Providing Asinine Techniques Required for Intercepting and Obstructing the Truth.

  • TOO INFORMED

    G. Bush said, and I quote: "Stop throwing the Constitution in my face; its only a g******ed piece of paper".

  • TOO INFORMED

The three branches of government has, over the years totally disregarded OUR Constitution and the Bill of Rights. BUT…the forth branch always up-holds both sacred documents. That forth branch is the American free Jury System. Some may disagree, so explain why not-guilty verdicts can NEVER be overturned or reversed. That was how the Fugitive Slave Act and the 18th amendment were repealed. By juries refusing to convict defendents accused of violating a bad law.

Is Obama Propped up by Congress? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H3aCfR8rmrw&fe

    • http://conservativebyte.com Michael G.

Good question. I wouldn't be surprised.

  • John

It's our own fault. We continue to elect these con artists from both parties. There has been a proposed Amendment to the Constitution floating around the web. It calls for Congress, all government employees and officials to be bound by the same laws that they foist upon the public. Sounds like a good idea ! Another indicator of the corruption and graft is in our 71,684 page tax code that is rife with special tax breaks, political favors, and only God knows what else. We need a massive change in the way Washington has been doing " monkey " business. Personally, I want to state to the Washington elites, " I am NOT your friggin ATM, nor am I a bottomless money pit ! "

  • Lipstick

Just hope everyone does a lot of soul searching before you vote for Ronmey. Obama impersonator Romney was for abortion and he has his health care law that makes him just like Obama. He is not good for America. He has way too much money and the Elite Media are glad to report on him. If you can't see he's being foist upon you we have no hope.

There’s an elegant and simple solution for this government problem…..
    VOTE
    THEM
    ALL
    OUT!!!!
ANY politician that’s been there more than 2 terms has been corrupted beyond redemption, and needs to be voted out.
