Teachers Union Staffers Set Sail on Seven-Day Caribbean Cruise

Imagine your organization is facing attacks from all sides.  Imagine it’s losing members and revenue.  Imagine governors and mayors – of both political parties – publicly denouncing your industry as “broken” and move swiftly to stifle your power and influence, while you flail away helplessly.

What to do?  What else to do but go down drinking?

That’s what members of the National Education Association’s National Staff Organization have apparently decided.  The NSO is an association of sorts for teachers’ union staff – political and communications types.

Following an “Advocacy Retreat” with the theme “Building Our Unionism,” members set sail on a 7-day cruise from Miami on February 5th “with stops at Cozumel, Grand Cayman Island and Isla Roatan.”  Sounds fun!  [In case the Facebook link disappears, never fear: here’s a PDF of the NSO newsletter.]

      Sounds like the National Education Association's National staffers Org is just like their BIG KAHONA – when things get touch and sticky just go on expensive vacation on the tax payers $$$$.

        It was likely with Union dues that is paying for this trip and I am sure many of those paying the dues are not happy about this. They give 95 per cent of those dues to the Democrats for reelection so what is a few thousand to gripe about?

    Glad to see that they are using the teachers union dues for a worthwhile event. Cruises are a wonderful way to clear your head out and have a great time. Lots of corporations do that with their profits. I am sure that the teachers paying those dues don't need cruises. They don't have as much stress on them. But the union will get stronger (the staffers will also get tanner and well fed) If I was a teacher, I would be furious, but I would rather them spend it friviously on themselves than using it to get rid of good conservative governors or senators or representatives or against a good presidential candidate.

    Man, can you imagine what it would be like to end up on that cruise. I can only guess at what the stimulating conversation would be like after the first rum drink of the day.I believe I would have to JUMP ship !

    Unionized Teachers: THINK!!! When it comes time for you to retire, the union will say to you, "We don't have any money for your pension. We spent it all on political contributions to the democratic party and remember that 7 day cruise the union staff went on in 2012? Sorry. No pension. (Look up the word "fungible" in the dictionary!!

    The union knows this would get out in the public, It is there way of laughing at Americans that they can do what they want and when they want. Obama is protecting them and using their money. It is a win win situation for them. Obama is not President because he loves this country he is in it for him.

    I feel sorry for those poor, dumb saps who pay union dues so their officers can use the money for their own pleasure!!! What does it take for good people to realize how they are being sucked dry by these union crooks????? And the other aspect of union teachers is you can't get rid of the incompetent ones, so our children suffer1!! We are for RTW in the public sector as well as the private sector. Think about it!!!

    THis is a good time to go because rates are very cheeap, besides thely are paid by the individials not by their organization, The union jobs are the last bastion where a middle calass worker can make a living wage tjo pay his/herss biils plus charitable givings to the poor and the church.

    Do you really think union dues are for the benefit of the workers? Well then you probably believe Obama is the best next thing to Mao.

    My mother, wife and daughter were/are all educators. Notice I use the word educator instead of teacher. An educator is there because they love what they do and are good at it. A teacher is there to do a mediocre job, at best, and get a good salary and great benefits. My wife actually tried not to join the union but was "forced" into it. Not only are the unions largely to blame for what is going on in schools today (poor performance), but so are the educational leaders at the state level, with their six figure salaries. Even though my wife and I are retired and moved, we still get their rags telling her how to vote in all of the elections!
    PS: I would be remiss in blaming teachers for poor student performance without also blaming the parents!

    Did anyone read the brochure? It doesn't say it's an all expense paid trip, it says they have to pay their own way and what the cost is per person. Ramblings like this are what gives us good conservatives a bad name, we need to get the facts straight before criticizing.

    I think these staffers are salaried with Union Dues. The Cruise is probably paid with Union Dues, not any personal money. The Union Workers paid for Staffers' luxery trip. That's what I like about Unions who take worker's money, They party when they feel like it at worker's expense. I've met a few who were supposed to be attending seminars and partied all night long, looking for the opposite sex to…. Some were as old as my grandfather! I owned a Bistro; I know.

    One reason to home school is because of rotten NEA. The best reason is your children are not exposed to false history, bad math habits and the tearing down of the family. My great grand children are homeschooled and are way ahead of public school curiculum.
