Auto Workers Tap Network for Obama

The United Automobile Workers union, a primary beneficiary of President Obama’s decision to rescue domestic carmakers, is now trying to return the favor.

As Mitt Romney prepared to deliver an economic address here on Friday declaring Mr. Obama’s three years in office a “failed presidency,” hundreds of union members gathered on the top level of a parking deck as a freezing drizzle fell.

“Thank you, President Obama!” shouted the union’s president, Bob King. He gripped a bullhorn as he exhorted the crowd, “Everyone!” They roared back, “Thank you, President Obama!”

It was the beginning of an effort by the U.A.W. and others in the labor movement to put their vast political organizations into motion behind Mr. Obama, testing their power in a difficult economy after years of declining membership. This is an election that both parties say could turn on their ability to win over working-class voters in the industrial Midwest, where battlegrounds like Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin could determine the outcome.

      We have bought only new Fords or Chevy's since I was old enough to drive. I'm now 61 years old. BUT if the UAW union members allow their union bosses to get behind Obummer any more and help this fake in his campaign, I WILL BUY AMERICAN CARS NO MORE ! For years I was a Democrat and a AFLCIO and UAW member. Now, along with most other Americans, I am AGAINST the unions ! The union workers should not allow what's happening to happen. My excuse for them being good Americans doesn't hold water anymore. The fact is that as a group they are working with Obama's agenda to destroy our great country. So from this day forward consider me as ANTI-UNION ! When they are out of work in this country and the American car industry is dead, perhaps they'll realize they should have "reorganized" and changed their ways before they lost the support of the American people. They can call a union vote, and remove these leaders pretty quickly if they wish to survive. They better do it soon as the POINT OF NO RETURN IS UPON THEM !

    Yes, Obama used an illegal bailout of the auto workers union to get the loyalty and big campaign contributions from union members. This is the payback that Obama expected.

    Then there are the mindless who don’t stand up to the bosses and the sycophants who follow them will follow them to the graveyard………like the SEIU members especially.

      What do you mean by “have become”? They have always been criminally lead in my 69 years of observance. In the far distant past, Unions were doing good work but after they were able to get the bad stuff under control, they begin to see their over reaching power. They went on to force, through political pay offs and thuggish actions, full Union control over many states which hasn’t changed in over 50 years until recently. It is one thing to insure safe working environments and decent wages but when these Thuggish Unions keep pushing for more than a company can afford, then all suffer. These Unions could careless when a company has to charge more for a product which causes all who use the product to pay more. Unions are only interested in helping themselves and really don’t care if they force their companies to close and move over seas. Look at the teachers Unions. They put on a cry baby face to the public but look at their respective results across our Nation. It is a miserable failure in spite of a few exceptions.

        I think your right on target. I'm 60 and have observed the same thing. I remember the about everyone had pretty much the same 'chant', Buy the UNION LABEL or Look for the Union Label. No more! I quit buying Chevy's and Fords about 12 years ago. I drive Nissan and am just as satisfied. Anyone looked at the prices of new vehicles these days? It's disgraceful! I just buy them slightly used. Saves thousands.

    Teaman you are correct. many years ago I went to work for a large company. being a green horn from the farm I was dumb about unions. Two of us refused to vote to make the company a labor union controled company. after work walking to the parking lot four well dressed men tried to beat the h–l out of us, saved we ran to the managers exit.

      If you really liked America you would buy American , at this point buy China and see how long it Lasts , Right now some of the best cars in the world come from Ford,, There Quality has really improved , There stckers tell you what to count on Mileage wise and they are close , a lot of foreign cars lie about there mileage , I've worked in auto industry for over 60 years and have seen US change from Quanity to Quality,

    I agree with most of the post. I worked for the union at one time but they did nothing for me. It was always the ones who cheated, didn’t show up for work, did sloppy work that they went to bat to save their jobs. The unions were great back in their day but now it is all for the big shots in the union. I am a registered Democrat but did not and will not vote for Obama. I think he is trying to destroy out country. We need to back up our words with money. I will be sending mine to the Rep. candidate whoever he is – anyone running is an improvement over the POTUS we have.
