Government to Ban Smoking on Private Property?

A Placer County town is considering a ban on smoking that some say goes way too far.  The Rocklin City Council is considering making it against the law for smokers to smoke anywhere outside on their property.

The city council is considering the ban after one home owner complained about smoke coming from their neighbors’ backyards saying it caused health problems for their kids.  But before going to the city council, the family first asked their neighbors to stop smoking.

One couple agreed, according to their son.  “They felt that there wasn’t any reason to put the household in any sort of health risk,” Eric Croslin said explaining his parent’s position.

    Two Cows
SOCIALISM: You have two cows. State takes one and give it to someone else.
COMMUNISM: You have two cows. State takes both of them and gives you milk.

FASCISM: You have two cows. State takes both of them and sell you milk.

NAZISM: You have two cows. State takes both of them and shoot you.

BUREAUCRACY: You have two cows. State takes both of them, kill one and spill the milk in system of sewage.

CAPITALISM: You have two cows. You sell one and buy a bull.

Doesn’t the government have more important things to worry about than who is smoking in their yard? Things like economy, the price of gasoline, inflation.
I’m not a smoker, but have to say that those same people who complain about smokers, think nothing of burning wood in their fireplaces that choke me to death when I open my bedroom window at night. Sins are always in the eyes of the sinner

Enough is enough….my freedom of where & when I smoke is my business. I'm respectfull of others when in public & around kids, but stay away from my personal property!! Tell them to F OFF!!

JUST ONE MORE REASON TO VOTE FOR Dr.RON PAUL 2012 !!!

  • msjallen

I hate smoking or even being around where people smoke but if people are stupid enough to smoke then that is their business not the government's. The same with what we eat. "Big daddy" keeps ruining our freedom and no one seems to have the power to stop this socialistic movement. Our only hope is God.

  • ketrout

This is a load of crap!!!! When it becomes where the federal, state or local government tells me what I can and cannot do on my own property will be the day that I move to another country!

Tell the neighbor to go and stick it up his AS#!!!!!

  • TheHoosier

I’m 76 yrs of age I began smoking at 12 and finally quit at 58. I was two packs a day. The Government used to subsidize tobacco farmers, Doctors recommend it and cigarettes were put into gift packs for our servicemen and prices reduced so military could buy them cheaper. Now they want to outlaw smokers! the hypocrisy of Polititions. I don’t smoke anymore, haven’t in18 yrs. now but I have no objections to anyone smoking around me. Smokers should be more considerate of where they smoke and people around them but flip it around and non-smokers should be more considerate of those who do smoke. And as for someone smoking in ther yard and it “bothers the neighbor”. Give me a break. They’ve probably got a BarBQ but that’s alright!

Actually becoming a police state, they're running our lives, slowly but surely they're taking away our rights! Very scary!

  • VirgoVince

  • Colorado Joe

What's next? Big brother will probably require everyone to install a "telescreen" (see Orwell's 1984). And don't forget the special smoke detectors that will sound the alarm at the new EPA's Ministry Smoke Control so they can send a swat team to your house. The only ones who will get a waiver will be the Marijuana pot heads at Berkley, all the liberal universities like CU Boulder, and the Hollywood elite of course.

Everyone who is appalled by this sort of governmental intrusion needs to search for and understand the 20 year old UNITED NATIONS PROGRAM signed by POTUS Clinton called AGENDA 21…All about their idea of what SUSTAINABLE GROWTH should look like. It is light years beyond frightening, and is being implemnted in every county in the country…except the counties who have informed citizens that work to have it removed..

  • Bob D

I'm surprised the EPA hasn't gone after smoking yet, or jet plane travel?

  • Larry

Who has more right, my right to breath clean air or a smokers right to pollute it.

    Larry

    • Navyvet

Larry, why the hell do you think we Vets served our Country? It was to give you
the right to smoke or not smoke.
      So get a life……………………..

If this ban is pased, this is a law that needs to b broken by everybody anmd make it unenforcable. This ban if passed needs to be Nullified by the peopl of this city and everywhere else where it is attempted. Stop the Nanny State, if everybody vioated this law it would and could be Nullified, If anybody was arrested for this and stod trial fo it, then th Jury should all vote Innocent of all charges", efectively Nullifying the law itself as it would be a bad or iunjst law.

  • Debora Makower

After I read all the comments, I am a asthmatic as well as other breathing conditions. I don't think there should be someone in office to totally tell people they can't smoke, and your right, I am allergic to fireplaces burning wood, and every other kind of smoke. I would like there to be more nurses and doctors that only see nurses and doctors who smoke. Whrn I've been in the hospital a nurse comes in after their smoking break, and I can not breathe. I know it is a habit which is difficult to accomplish, and I do agree there have to be places where workers can go to smoke. I am from California. I do believe the non smoking areas began there. I am glad to go to a restaurant and not have my lungs stop breathing and all the other pl

There is no limit to what they the lib sunny sh its are going to try and get away with now that their days are numbered.

    I beg to differ.
If tyou want to kill yourself by doing something (smoking) that has been proven to be harmful, and even fatal to your health, that's your business. But second-hand smoke has been proven to be toxic, especially for people who don't smoke. I'm an ex-smoker, and having quit many years ago is the best thing I ever did for my health and that of those around me. Smokers don't have any right to pollute my air.
Alcohol does not pollute the air. Neither does the smoke coming from a barbecue pit. Go ahead and do the research as to, the numerous toxic substances that exist in cigarette smoke. And you think you have the right to force me to put all that crap in my system??!! I don't think so!!
I know of at least one person, a non-smoker, who died from being exposed to SH smoke.
And just think how much it costs the taxpayer to pay for uninsured cancer patients whose disease was caused by cigarette smoking!! Face it: smoking is a stupid, senseless, harmful, dumb vice. No wonder the joke:
Definition of a cigarette: some tobacco rolled in a piece of paper. On one end it has a fire and on the other a fool!!

Can we just ban smoking all together, save lives, save billions on health care for those smokers and chewers that wouldn’t get cancer if they didn’t use tobacco.  Oh, wait, our government representatives wouldn’t get rich from tabacco company bribes–oops-lobbists.  No, we have the right to kill ourselves if someone is making money off our right to shorten our own life by an average of 20 years.
