Billions in Stimulus Awarded to Tax Cheats

One construction company that won multiple awards of money under President Obama’s 2009 stimulus program was delinquent on its federal tax bill to the tune of $700,000, even as a company executive was blowing hundreds of thousands of dollars at casinos.

Yet another company failed to pay taxes, entered into a payment plan with the Internal Revenue Service, and then repeatedly defaulted on that agreement – and still won stimulus contracts worth more than $1 million, according to a Government Accountability Office report released Tuesday.

All told, government investigators found that during the period they examined, one out of every six stimulus contract or grant dollars went to a known tax cheat, according to Sen. Tom Coburn, an Oklahoma Republican who, along with several colleagues, requested the GAO review.

The review found that at least 3,700 stimulus recipients owed a total of more than $757 million in taxes, but were awarded $24 billion in stimulus money.

    Congress need to stop making it so profitable for those companies taking their business overseas. They use cheap labor and work these poor souls paying dirt cheap salaries. Poor working working conditions and inadequate living quarters. Wal-Mart isn't a exactally high paying employeer in the US. Congress need to say no to any more bailouts. Next time Ben Bernenake cries, hand him a towel.

    Congress has the power to defund programs it opposes. They are threatening to defund support of the attacks in Libya. Why don’t we the people defund Congress? It would be very simple and effective. If 50 million taxpayers simply didn’t file a tax return on April 15th and lowered their federal withholding to the lowest amount possible what would happen? Revenues to fund waseful pork projects, foreign aid to our enemies, out-of-control union benefits, etc., would be greatly reduced and slow things down. It would be impossible for the IRS to investigate the millions who participate in this boycott. This would be the equivalent of the “Boston Tea Party” — no taxation without representation. The Congress has thumbed their noses at the American people and rammed Obamacare down our throats so it makes sense to me that we give them a taste of their own medicine and remind them where this “revenue” stream comes from: we the people! It will serve notice that WE THE PEOPLE control the purse strings that fund government spending and that we’ve had enough. All those participating in the boycott need do is simply change their withholding by increasing the number of exemptions and then setting aside this money in a savings account so it will be available to pay back taxes when the boycott ends. We can reduce the revenue stream enough to get Washington’s attention and force them to start listening to we the people. Since the Dems are so fond of unions and collective bargaining we could do the same thing by not filing a tax return — our equivalent of a strike. We can force them to the bargaining table and demand changes in how our money is spent, etc. This CAN work if enough people get behind it. Cut off or slow down the flow of tax dollars into the U.S. Treasury and see who blinks first! It worked in Boston and will work for us.
